To
make an Internet connection using Windows XP/Internet
Explorer v.6
1.
Click Start.
2.
Click Control Panel.
3.
Click Network and Internet Connections.
4.
Click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
5.
Enter your Home page address-type in www.brinet.com in the
box. Click the Apply button.

Click the Connections tab.
7.
Click the Setup button to open the Connection Wizard. Click
Next.
8.
Click “Connect to the Internet.” Click Next.
9.
Click on "Set up my connection manually.” Click Next.
10.
Click “Connect using a Dial-up Modem.” Click Next.
11.
Enter the ISP name as BRINET. Click Next.
12.
Enter the correct phone number for the county you will be
dialing in from. Use a number from
the list below: (You don’t need to enter the area code)
654-0880 for Buncombe or Henderson County
456-6831 for Haywood County
652-9663 for McDowell County
862-3499 for Transylvania County

Click Next.
14.
Username and Password: Please contact us before
proceeding if you do not know your username and
password. Type your username and password in the designated
boxes. Confirm the password by typing in the same password. Make
sure you type your username and password in lower case, no
spaces, and no symbols.
Uncheck
the option “Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this
connection.” Click Next. Click Finish.

Open Internet Explorer (use the blue e icon on the desktop).
Click Work Offline.
16.
Click Mail (envelope icon) in the Tool Bar. Click Read Mail.
17.
Click Work Offline to open Outlook Express.
18.
Click on Tools in the Menu bar.
19.
Click Accounts.
20.
Click Add.
21.
Click Mail.
22.
Enter a Display Name. Click Next.
23.
Enter your E-mail address. Click Next.
24.
Enter the Incoming server name as pop3.brinet.com.
25.
Enter the Outgoing mail server name as smtp.brinet.com.
Click Next.
26.
Enter your Account name (your username name-NOT your email
address).
27.
Enter your password.
28.
Make sure there is a check in the box beside “Remember
Password.” Click Finish.
29.
Open Internet Explorer (use the blue e icon on the desktop).
Click Connect to make a connection.
