Double
click on the "Connect to the Internet"
icon. (If you do not have that icon, or if the
Wizard does not automatically start, double click
on My Computer, then Control Panel, Internet, then
Connection Tab, then Setup ).
- The
"Internet Connection Wizard" will start.
- Click
on "I want to set up my Internet connection
manually, or I want to connect through a local area
network (LAN)" (the third option). Click Next.
- Click
on "I connect through a phone line and a
modem." Click Next. -You may need to select the
"Create a new dial-up connection" option
here, and click Next.
- Phone
Number: (Area code: 828)
° Type in 654-0880 for Buncombe or Henderson
County.
° Type in 456-6831 for Haywood
County.
° Type in 652-9663 for McDowell
County.
° Type in 862-3499 for Transylvania
County.
Uncheck the "Dial using the area code"
box. Click Next.
- Username
and Password: -Note: If you do not know your
username and password, or have not yet contacted our
office with that information, please contact us
before proceeding. Your user name and password need
to be twenty(20) characters or less, all lower case,
with no spaces. Type your username and password.
Make sure you type in lower case, no spaces, and no
symbols. Click Next.
- Enter
Connection Name: type in Blue Ridge Internet, Click
Next.
- Set-Up
Internet Mail Account: Click Yes, then Next. -You
may need to select the "Create a new Internet
mail account" option here, and click Next.
- Your
Name: type in the name you want to appear on e-mail
(i.e., John Smith). Click Next.
- Internet
E-mail Address: type your username@brinet.com. Click
Next.
- E-mail
Server Names: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: Next to
Incoming Mail Server type: pop3.brinet.com (lower
case). Next to Outgoing Mail Server type:
smtp.brinet.com (lower case). Click Next.
- Internet
Mail Logon: Click on "Log on Using," then
type in the username and password that you entered
on step #6 (the username may already be entered.)
Click Next.
- Complete
Configuration: Uncheck the box to "connect to
the Internet immediately," and click on Finish.
- From
the Windows 98 Desktop, double click on My Computer,
then Control Panel, then the Internet Options icon.
- Under
the General tab, on the Home Page section, in the
Address field type in www.brinet.com (the address
field should be highlighted already allowing you to
type over the current address.) Click OK.
Congratulations, you're ready to go. Just
Double click on the Internet Explorer icon (blue
"e") and connect.

Internet Explorer icon (the blue "e"),
then left click on Properties.

Under
the General tab, on the Home Page section, in the
Address field type in www.brinet.com (the address
field should be highlighted already allowing you to
type over the current address.) Click OK.
Congratulations, you're ready to go. Just Double
click on the Internet Explorer icon (blue
"e") and connect.
